Biography

With Gratitude

Natale L. Urso, founder of the Firm, graduated from Holy Cross College in 1950 and Georgetown Law Center in 1953 and practiced law in Washington, D.C. and Rhode Island from 1953, including extensive trial and appellate experience.

Nat practiced law for over 65 years. Although he was a brilliant and gifted litigator and he successfully handled many important cases, he was just as proud of the opportunities he had to help his clients resolve their differences without entering the courtroom. He always took the time to understand the opposite side. He was a great friend, a trusted counselor, and many sought his advice.

His practice included extensive trial and appellate experience, particularly in the areas of civil and constitutional rights. He briefed and argued 39 cases before the Rhode Island Supreme Court, and many cases in Federal Circuit and District courts and District of Columbia courts, as well as all RI state courts. He served as Special Counsel to the Rhode Island Attorney General at the outset of his career, and as Town Solicitor for the Towns of Hopkinton and Richmond, for many years. He was General Counsel to the National Education Association Rhode Island, and represented teachers in a majority of Rhode Island public school districts, as well as faculty, administrative, and support unions at Community College of Rhode Island, Roger Williams College, Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Rhode Island, including its physicians’ union.

Nat was not only a trusted advisor to his clients, but also to his colleagues. We are grateful for his guidance and example.
